The General Directorate of Housing and Architecture from Extremadura is part of the Regional Ministry of Infrastructures within the Regional Government of Extremadura (Spain). This Regional Ministry has the competences in the area of transport, infrastructure, housing, urban planning and management in the Territory.

Within this Ministry, the Directorate General of Housing and Architecture is committed to introduce new technologies in building construction in order to build in a more efficient, sustainable and higher quality way. Also, referring to energy efficiency, it has been created a group within the Directorate in charge of studying the state of social housing prior to the entry into force of the Abstract Document about Energy Saving, according to the Technical Code of Building Construction and the Royal Decree referred to Energy Buildings Certification.

Main Functions of the Directorate General of Housing and Architecture

• Competences in social housing, including the development of land and the access where appropriate for public or private constructions.
• Ensure the operation of the following corporate bodies: the Housing Advisory Council of Extremadura, the Commission of Extremadura Regional Housing and the Council for the Promotion of Accessibility.
• Proposing, developing and implementing special housing programs.
• The competences in edification. The development of special regional or local plans, including the purchase of land, urbanization and its access.
• The information, statistics and analysis of the housing market and all matters relating to the sector and analysis of data for proper decision making and direct communication with the different actors within in the sector.
